Bob Odenkirk calls monarchy 'twisted' moments before finding out he's King Charles' cousin
Breaking Bad star Bob Odenkirk has recently discovered he’s related to King Charles, right before sharing his strong views on the monarchy.
The TV star, best known for playing the role of Saul Goodman in the hit series, and its spin-off, Better Call Saul, found out the astonishing information during the latest episode of US genealogy series Finding Your Roots.

Bob Odenkirk’s relation to King Charles hasn’t changed his views on the monarchy
The show, which sees host Henry Louis Gates Jr. tracing celebrities‘ family trees managed to look back on five generations of the star’s roots, where they found the royal connection.
Bob’s fifth great-grandfather was Friedrich Carl Steinholz, who was born in Germany, Plön, in 1755. According to records, his mother conceived him out of wedlock with the Duke of Plön, who’s related to the royal family of Europe due to intermarriage. Therefore, Bob has royal blood inside him, but will his mind on the monarchy change?
“[It makes me feel] like a part of history that I didn’t think I was any part of,” the 61-year-old said after learning about his relation to Plön. “I’m an American. I’m not a monarchist. I don’t believe in that. You know, I feel like it’s a little twisted.”
Expanding on his views, he said: “I understand why society built itself around monarchs and leaders, and they passed them down through generations. I understand that goes through every society, every civilization. But I think that we’ve gotten to a better place with democracy and we should keep going down that road.”
After sharing his views, he was then graced with the revelation that though the Duke, he and King Charles are in fact, 11th cousins.
The star couldn’t contain his laughter as he chuckled: “Well maybe I’ll change my mind on that.”
The two then shared a joke about how Bob was “trashing his family on how they make a living,” as he called the revelation “crazy!”
Hilary Duff was once named America’s ‘most royal’ celeb
The Better Call Saul star isn’t the only celebrity who has traces of royalty in their blood. According to a genealogy study, actress Hilary Duff is an 18th cousin of Queen Elizabeth II.
The Lizzie McGuire actress is said to be related to Alexander Spotswood, the 10th great-grandson of Edward III, according to CBS News. In fact, she was even named America’s ‘most royal’ celebrity, according to a study by FindMyPast.com.
Other stars related to the royals include actor Kit Harrison and his wife Rose Leslie, which means they’re actually distantly related to each other also.
Jake Gyllenhaal is also reportedly a 19th cousin of the Queen, as he and his sister Maggie traced their lineage back to King Edward III, who ruled from 1327 until 1377, as per CBS News.
